Abstract

This essay moves from La Rivoluzione francese del 1789 written by Alessandro Manzoni, and is offered as Commentary to a comment. The author, who already worked on this topic, intends to reflect on the nature of the critical edition and together to offer some concrete excerpts from the hermeneutic exercise carried out around the last great historical essay of Manzoni. It analyzes the history of the text, its various prints, the philological problems associated with the incomplete texts and the study of the solutions adopted by previous curators. Finally, it shows how to build an agile but punctual and innovative comment, both on the linguistic-stylistic side as well as on the historical-critical side, to propose the work also to a non-academic audience.
